25th Anniversary Special Jubilee Edition

Jacket Image
'Destroy is a photographic account of the 12 months leading up to the group’s burn-out, freeze-framing each shell-shocked band member. The minutiae is irresistible: timely Gang of Four graffiti on a toilet wall, Vivienne Westwood already old enough to know better; a young Richard Branson looking like a displaced member of The Eagles. It’s appeal should reach beyond the nostalgists to those eager to discover more about a watershed year in popular music.' - Q

'The most charismatic band of all time at their wild-eyed, royalty-baiting, chaos-inducing best.' - Bizarre

Punk rock - one of the most crucial and influential cultural movements of the 20th century - was epitomised by the Sex Pistols. And during the band’s most formidable year, 1977 - exactly 25 years ago - they had just one official photographer who documented and consequently defined this pivotal era: Dennis Morris.

Now 25 years on, a brand new Jubilee edition of Destroy is to be published to celebrate Punk’s first major anniversary. This unique collection, that has become a landmark work in music history, now features am exclusive interview with the enigma that is Dennis Morris, a brand new colour cover. Publication was accompanied by exhibitions in London and New York.

Documenting the originators of an iconoclastic period in youth culture, music and fashion in more than 170 classic b&w photographs, Destroy is the ultimate Sex Pistols book. From confrontational and anarchic live shots of the band to portraits of their associates, such as manager Malcolm McLaren, Vivienne Westwood, Richard Branson and the ill-fated Nancy Spungen, Morris had unlimited access to the band. He documented their video shoots, tours, the infamous Thames River boat trip, the chaotic Swedish and UK Spots tours, right up to their departure for America in 1978 - where it all fell apart.
